Police: Person of interest sought in Wichita homicide investigation

Wichita police are looking for a person of interest in connection to a homicide that took place Tuesday at a west Wichita motel.

At approximately 5:10 p.m., Officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of West Kellogg Drive for a shooting call. Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers began providing life-saving efforts until EMS arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.


The investigation revealed that the man, 50, from Santa Cruz, California had a verbal altercation with another man. That argument turned physical at which point the suspect started shooting and striking the victim once.

Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting and the relationship between the man and the suspect.

Police are now attempting to locate Larry Powell, 43. He is described as 5'  4" tall and weighs 217 lbs.

According to police, Powell was seen leaving the area in the green minivan with a 60-day temporary tag.
