Mayor Eric Garcetti joined grocery store executives to talk about growing fears surrounding food shortages in LA.
Garcetti and executives said that while people are inclined to panic-shop, overbuying groceries and essential items, this method is not necessary.
"This health crisis is a moment for preparation, not panic," Garcetti said. "There's no shortage of supplies at our grocery stores and no reason to over-buy. Angelenos should shop responsibly and safely, and do not need to stockpile food."
Yesterday, Garcetti issued new restrictions on the opening hours and capacity expectations of restaurants, bars, and other establishments in Los Angeles. This includes the temporary closure of many of these businesses.
Restaurants, bars, and retail food facilities may no longer serve food on the premises, but can offer take-out and delivery options instead. Grocery stores remain exempt from the closures.
