There's a crowd protesting in Santa Monica Thursday over the death of a black man in police custody in Minnesota.

There were about 100 to 150 people in the crowd, according to  KNX reporter Pete Demetriou.

He says Thursday afternoon the protesters got all the way from the Santa Monica Police Headquarters on Olympic down Ocean Avenue to Venice in front of an LAPD sub-station. He said many are wearing shirts saying "Black Lives Matter" and carrying homemade signs.

They are protesting the use of excessive force by the police and the death of George Floyd in police custody.

On Wednesday there was a massive protest in downtown Los Angeles which caused a temporary shut down of the 101 freeway. The protests and rallies are part of a larger nationwide protest against the death of Floyd, who died this week when a Minneapolis police officer kneeled his knee on Floyd's neck. The officer and three others were fired this week.

However, there is rioting and unrest in the Twin Cities since then.

The Minnesota Governor has called in the National Guard to help with the looting after rioting started over the death.
