(KNX 1070) -- Thanks to criminal activity in Signal Hill and Santa Clarita late Wednesday night,  Los Angeles Police Department officers were left scrambling to respond to multiple home invasions.

Two men were shot during a terrifying home-invasion in Signal Hill Thursday. One of them is now listed in critical condition -- while the three suspects remain on the loose.

The victims were among five family members who were inside the house on East 19th Street near Obispo Avenue. The three armed-and-masked intruders broke in late Wednesday night. A neighbor says he still has no idea about the gunmen's motives.

The attackers took off without stealing anything. The second man who was shot suffered only a minor wound and has been released from the hospital.

Two home invasion style robberies are also being investigated in Santa Clarita.

Authorities are searching for three to four suspects who broke into two homes in the Santa Clarita area late Wednesday night.

The first incident was reported about 9 p.m. at a home in the 17400 block of Blue Aspen Lane in the Canyon Country community.

Three to four men entered the home after breaking a window at the rear of the house. Deputies received a second call about 10:50 p.m. reporting a home invasion in the 16700 block of Nearview Drive in Santa Clarita.

An undisclosed amount of property was taken in the incident. A woman who was home at the time was not injured. The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan. Investigators believe the incidents could be connected.
