A gunman killed at least two people, including himself, and injured 13 others in a shooting Thursday at a Kroger store in Collierville, Tennessee, according to police.
Authorities said the shooter was among the dead, saying he shot and killed himself. Police believe he acted alone but could not yet confirm what kind of weapon he used.
First responders rushed all of those hurt in the mass incident to the hospital.
Collierville is about 30 miles from Memphis.
Callers reported an active shooter Thursday afternoon around 1:30. Police responded with a SWAT team, going “aisle to aisle, room to room” to rescue grocery employees hiding from the gunshots.
A floral department employee said she fled the grocery store after hearing gunshots.
“I just ran out the door. I left my purse, my keys, everything,” McDonald told USA Today.
She recalled seeing one of her fellow employees and several customers get shot while running for her life.
Students at a nearby Collierville high school were sheltered in place until police cleared the scene.
The police chief called it the “most horrific event that has occurred in Collierville's history.”
