KNX Hero of the Week is 15-Year-Old Teen Helping Keep Homeless Safe During Coronavirus

A compassionate teenager from Rancho Santa Margarita is helping the homeless stay safe during the coronavirus outbreak.

She's our KNX Hero of Week, and her kindness is captivating the community.

So, Shaivi started packaging kits at home, packed with vital items.

"Hand soap, hand sanitizer, lotion and masks," says the Tesoro High School Student. The kits are then dropped-off at shelters around the community.

According to her mother, Shaivi has been involved with helping the homeless since she was young.

"So when she came up with the idea to help them again, it was not something that was new to us," says Dipti Shah.

Shaivi Shah's mom says she was concerned at first that there wouldn't be enough supplies to make all of the kits. But the 15-year-old did her research, and found everything she needed.

"She did good finding the resources, and she got help from her friends, calling different stores, to see if they have any supplies," says Dipti.

Now, hundreds of homeless people have a little help warding-off the coronavirus.

"I've donated 640 [kits] right now," says Shaivi, "but I've made, in total, about 800."

And through the help of a GoFundMe account, Shaivi has much more she wants to accomplish.

"I've raised about $18,000 on my GoFundMe, so with that I can make about 4,000 kits. So, that's the goal."

Caring for others during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fifteen-year-old Shaivi Shah is making a difference in her community, helping the homeless stay safe with sanitizing kits, and that is why we are honoring her as our KNX Hero of the Week!

KNX Heroes is presented by California Resources Corporation, saluting our military veterans, and all of our heroes!
