A wind advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 3 p.m. Thursday for the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, the San Gabriel Mountains and the Golden State (5) and Antelope Valley (14) freeway corridors. Forecasters said winds of 35 to 45 mph are anticipated in those areas, with gusts of 55 to 60 mph possible.
A separate wind advisory will be in effect during the same hours for the Santa Clarita Valley, Malibu Coast, Calabasas and Agoura Hills, where winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts up to 45 mph.
"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects," according to the National Weather Service. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Entire trees may also be blown over more easily due to wet soils from the November rains."
Forecasters said the Santa Ana conditions are expected to begin late Wednesday morning and continue through Thursday -- peaking Thursday morning. According to the NWS, it will be a "cooler Santa Ana event," so while temperatures will increase slightly, highs will likely remain in the 60s to low 70s across most of the area.
But that is expected to change over the weekend when a high-pressure system takes over, meaning "temperatures will be warming up quite a bit with (the) warmest day likely next Wednesday."
"In the meantime, highs will be 3-6 degrees above normal this weekend, warming to 5-10 degrees above normal next week," according to the NWS.
