Liquid egg substitute recalled because it might contain cleaning products

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced on Friday that over 212,000 pounds of liquid egg products are being recalled because they may contain a cleaning solution.

The producer of the egg substitute, Cargill Kitchen Solutions, is based in Lake Odessa, Michigan, and is working to recall the items that were produced from March 12-13.

According to the USDA, 212,268 pounds of liquid egg products with the product number “G1804” printed on the carton have been recalled.

It is currently believed that the recalled cartons were shipped to Ohio, Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and Iowa. However, the recall notice shared that there “is a possibility that the products were distributed nationwide.”

The recall comes after the FSIS received a tip about the potential contamination.

“After conducting an investigation and thorough assessment of the contents of the cleaning solution, FSIS scientists concluded that use of this product should not cause adverse health consequences or the risk is negligible, resulting in a Class III recall,” the recall notice shared.

The Class III recall brings “marginal risk,” but there have not been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions caused by the products.

Still, the recall notice shared that “anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.”

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them, and food service locations are urged not to serve them,” the notice says.

“These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
