Tarrant County Deputy Arrested For Shooting Death Of Girlfriend

Denton Police say they have arrested a man in the death of his girlfriend, and officials says he's a deputy with the Tarrant County Sheriff's office.

Denton Police investigators say Jay Rotter called police on August 26th to say his girlfriend shot herself in their home. When officers got to scene they found her body.

Police have been investigating, executed search warrants, and determined Rotter actually shot the woman.

A judge signed an affidavit for Rotter's arrest and the sheriff's deputy is now in custody on a warrant for murder and tampering with evidence.

"We are shocked and saddened about the incident and arrest of Jay Rotter. We have very little information regarding the situation at this time" said a release from the Tarrant County Sheriffs' office. "We believe in the criminal justice process and the truth will prevail. The Denton Police Department, in Denton County, is the arresting agency and the investigation is on-going."

Rotter has been with Tarrant County Sheriff since 2005 and assigned to the narcotics division.
