The Dallas Cowboys filled a position with little depth when they traded for Buffalo Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam on Wednesday in exchange for draft capital.
According to multiple NFL insiders, Dallas will send a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick to Buffalo for Elam and a 2025 sixth-rounder.
NFL insiderJosina Anderson was the first to report on the news.
Elam, 23, was the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Florida. He has started just 12 of the 29 games he's appeared in across three seasons.
The Cowboys needed a cornerback after nickel corner Jourdan Lewis departed for the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, and two of Dallas' other corners, Trevon Diggs and Caelen Carson, are coming off season-ending injuries. DaRon Bland, special teams ace C.J. Goodwin, and Josh Butler are the other corners on the roster.
Elam will count $2.5 million against the Cowboys salary cap after Buffalo took on $1.8 million in dead money. Dallas also holds his fifth-year option for 2026 worth $12.7 million.
Elam has 81 career tackles, two interceptions and six passes defended.
Elam had 26 tackles, two passes deflections and a fumble recovery in 13 games in 2024.
