DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Mavericks guard Luka Doncic was ejected after being assessed a flagrant 2 foul in the third quarter of Dallas' 124-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night.
On a Cavs offensive possession, Cleveland guard Collin Sexton appeared to blindside Doncic when he threw his shoulder in an aggressive manner into the Mavs guard. Doncic reacted and struck Sexton near the groin area.
After a five-minute review, Doncic was assessed the flagrant foul for an "aggressive strike to the groin area."
"That kind of stuff happens a lot in the games. I don't know. I guess that's my explanation," Doncic said after the game. "It obviously wasn't on purpose. Just two guys fighting (for position under the basket)."
The foul is not counted as a technical and Doncic's season total remains at 15 technical fouls, one shy of an automatic suspension with four games left to play.
Doncic ended the game with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Mavs with 25 points.
The Mavs, at 40-28, are up one game over the Portland Trailblazers for the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference. They are now up 2.5 games on the Lakers, who are in the No. 7 spot.
