The Texas Rangers entered the offseason looking to upgrade their offense. And that's exactly what they did late Tuesday night.
Texas acquired Miami Marlins corner infielder Jake Burger in exchange for three prospects, according to multiple reports.
The Rangers will send infield prospects Max Acosta, Echedry Vargas and pitching prospect Brayan Mendoza to Miami in the deal.
Burger, 28, will bring some much-needed pop to the Rangers lineup as the right-handed hitter slugged 63 home runs between the Marlins and the Chicago White Sox over the past two seasons.
Burger, who is controllable for the next four seasons, hit .251/.305/.483/.789 in 278 career games.
Burger can play first and third base, giving the Rangers depth behind third baseman Josh Jung and first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. Barring a trade of Lowe, whose name has been mentioned in trade rumors at times, Burger will slot in as the club's designated hitter.
Vargas is the Rangers' No. 17 prospect, according to MLB.com's rankings of the club's farm system. Acosta was previously among the top 30 prospects list before falling off last season. The shortstop had a strong season for Double-A Frisco in 2023, hitting .288 with 8 home runs and 58 RBI.
