Texas Rangers

What's the Rangers' plan for the Heim-Higashioka catching tandem?

The Texas Rangers made their first splash this winter on Monday, signing free agent catcher Kyle Higashioka to a two-year deal with a mutual option for a third season.

The deal is worth $13.5 million, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. The mutual option is worth up to $7 million and includes a $1 million buyout.

Higashioka, 34, hit a career-high 17 home runs, to go along with 45 RBIs in 84 games last season with the San Diego Padres.

The veteran catcher will form a tandem with 2023 All-Star Jonah Heim in Texas.

Mike Bacsik shared his thoughts on the signing and how the Rangers will disperse the playing time between the two catchers.
