An Allen business owner has been arrested for federal fraud charges but is facing a far more serious felony murder warrant in Dallas County court.

The murder warrant was issued last week for Keith Ashley, 48,  Allen, according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.  The warrant says the death happened in Carrollton February 19, the sheriff’s office says.

Ashley is the owner of Nine Band Brewery in Allen.  He is considered a well-established businessman in the community.  State records show he is also a licensed registered nurse.

Authorities in Carrollton declined to give details of the murder until a joint news release is issued with the Eastern District United States Attorney’s office.

Federal court records say Ashley was arrested Friday for wire fraud.  The charge lays out a Ponzi scheme that accuses Ashley of cheating investors out of more than $1.1 million since 2013.  Ashley used investment money to pay for brewery expenses, casino spending and student loans, according to the documents.  Federal authorities have already moved to seize his Allen home and pickup truck.

Fannin County authorities say Ashley is being held in their jail without bond.  His Houston attorney did not respond to our request for comment.
