Police were called to the dealership on I-20 at 6:31 p.m. on September 28. The first officers arrived at 6:36.

Dash and body camera video has been released and can be watched HERE, viewer discretion advised.

Officers learned the suspect had entered the dealership with a rifle. Police say the suspect had recently been fired.

Arlington Police say Abbas Al-Mutairy, 25, fired several shots toward the lobby, "which was full of employees and customers at the time."

Police say Al-Mutairy walked into the dealership and a service bay before returning to the parking lot. They say employees and customers started running when the shooting started.

"Miraculously, no one was struck," says Arlington Police Chief Al Jones.

Jones says the first officers arrived five minutes later, three officers fired at Al-Mutairy, and he was down two minutes after their arrival. Jones says Al-Mutairy appears to have pointed the rifle at officers as they responded.

"Our officers, we have a dynamic job. We come across dynamic situations every day," Jones says. "It's just fortunate for us we're very well trained in how to respond, and the response was appropriate."

Monday afternoon, Jones said Al-Mutairy remained in the hospital in critical condition, so officers have not been able to interview him and confirm a motive.

"This was a dynamic situation, but I'm just so proud of the people who responded and who actually took action," Jones says.

Al-Mutairy has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a public servant, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of deadly conduct.

Jones says the criminal investigation continues along with the administrative investigation to confirm whether officers followed all department policies.
