Fort Worth turns city hall into 'Kitty Hall'

Fort Worth held a special kitten adoption event at city hall on Friday. Visitors got a chance to meet and take home cats from the shelters operated by Fort Worth Animal Care and Control.

"We're hosting the inaugural 'Kitty Hall' at Fort Worth's new City Hall to celebrate our vibrant city and its commitment to animal welfare," said Anastasia Ramsey with Fort Worth Animal Care and Control. "With our new City Hall symbolizing progress and new beginnings, this event aligns perfectly with our goals of increasing community engagement, promoting adoptions, and showcasing shelter animals in a fun, approachable way."

To help promote adoptions today, the regular fees were waived at the event. All of the kittens were already microchipped, which helps animal control officers reunite them with their families if they get lost.

Several of the animals did get adopted. To make things a little more fun, they also took votes on which feline should be the "Mayor of Kitty Hall."

"The Mayor of Kitty Hall - like all cats - really runs the place," said Ramsey. "They'll get some cute photo ops...and will hopefully deliver on their campaign promises."

For anyone interested in adopting a cat, there are plenty still available. Ramsey says their shelters regularly run at 100% of their capacity or above.

They have four regular locations for in-person adoptions. Information is available on the city of Fort Worth's website
