Mesquite Police release bodycam footage from fatal shooting
Mesquite (1080 KRLD)- On Friday, Mesquite Police released bodycam footage of the incident involving Ashton Pinke, who was fatally shot by two officers on Tuesday morning.
Police responded to a 911 call at the Audobon Park Apartments following a call from Pinke's girlfriend. Dispatchers heard screaming and then the call became disconnected.
The video shows two officers confront Pinke, who charged at them with a knife and a club. The two officers fired their guns at him, which led to his death at a hospital.
Pinke's family said he struggled with mental health and had been diagnosed with bipolar schizophrenia. They believe the response by police should have included a mental health welfare check.
Pinke was a father of four children, according to his family.
Records show officers had been dispatched to Pinke's apartment five times throughout the past year.
