Plano road construction continues with options for people to report issues

PLANO, TX (1080 KRLD) - Plano is making improvements to some of its busiest streets, and while the construction will help the city modernize infrastructure, claims about damage caused by potholes are increasing.

Along Plano Parkway, the city is repairing pavement between Highway 75 and the eastern city limits. That project should wrap up in February. The city is also replacing asphalt on Plano Road between Shiloh Road and the eastern city limits, which should be completed in May.

Sidewalk improvements on Plano Road between Independence Parkway and Alma Drive should be completed in August. Pavement repair between Los Rios Boulevard and K Avenue should be finished early this year, and work on a North Texas Municipal Water District main should be finished in spring of 2025.

On Parker Road, pavement repair in the eastern part of Plano and asphalt overlay in the western part of the city were finished near the end of 2023. Asphalt overlay on Parker Road between the eastern city limits and Spring Creek Parkway should be finished in May.

"Overlays can only be installed between May and October when pavement temperatures are above 60 degrees," says the City of Plano's Steve Stoler. "The end result is a much smoother ride, it looks better than concrete and saves millions of tax dollars."

Stoler says more than 27,000 cars use Parker Road daily, but some parts of the road are now 40 years old.

Water line replacement on Parker Road between Independence Parkway and Country Place Drive should be finished in July. Plano is replacing iron pipes that were installed more than 50 years ago with PVC pipes.

"The goal here is to give you a smoother ride while addressing old, deteriorating water lines and roads," Stoler says.

Construction projects aim to update Plano's infrastructure, but some drivers say the construction itself can cause problems.

he city says it has been receiving more claims about damage caused by potholes. People can report damage here. Plano urges people to include as much information as possible like pictures and invoices, and the city will consider requests for reimbursement case-by-case.

People can also report issues with streets, parks, noise and other issues here.
