82% of Gen Z has AI do parts of their job for them

If it isn’t having their parents pay their bills or go to job interviews with them it’s always something. Now, a new survey has yet another disturbing fact about America’s youngest workers.

According to a new study from Google Workspace, 82% of Gen Z workers have admitted to using AI to complete their work. Another 88% said having access to the technology helped them overcome “task paralysis,” or the inability to complete a work assignment that may be too demanding.

“The future of work is here — and it’s AI-powered,” Yulie Kwon Kim, Vice President of Product at Google Workspace, said in a release.

When asked what tasks they utilize AI to complete, the report found that Gen Z workers were using it to draft emails and take notes in meetings.

The poll found that 93% of Gen Z workers reported using two or more tools on a weekly basis, compared to 79% of millennials.

“Rising leaders are not only advocating for AI, they’re deploying this technology in meaningful ways, from improving communication with colleagues to freeing up time for strategic work,” Kim said in the report.

The poll included responses from 1,005 workers ages 22 to 39 and sought to understand how they use AI while on the clock.

While some workers admitted to using AI for what could be considered menial tasks, the study highlighted that it’s more than just taking the easy way out.

“The data shows how AI can help scale business-critical soft skills, such as the ability to collaborate with others, communicate effectively, lead a team, and more,” the study authors said. “It not only helps individuals get work done faster and more efficiently but also changes how they work in meaningful ways.”

The introduction of AI in the workplace by younger generations may also be a sign of the times, as 98% of respondents said they anticipate AI will have an impact on their industry or workplace within the next five years.
