Former President Donald Trump is leading Florida Governor Ron DeSantis nationally in a new poll, but trailing President Joe Biden by 4 points.
The new Quinnipiac University poll showed Trump leading DeSantis 51% to 40% head-to-head.
Among Republican and Republican leaning voters, 46% support Trump while 32% support DeSantis. The gap is slightly larger than a similar poll in February, which showed Trump leading DeSantis 42% to 36%.
"DeSantis might be the buzz in the GOP conversation, but for now Trump is seeing no erosion and, in fact, enjoys a bump in his lead in the Republican primary," Tim Malloy, polling analyst for Quinnipiac University, said in a statement.
In a hypothetical general election matchup for president, DeSantis and Trump both fell to Biden.
The poll shows Biden has a slight lead over Trump -- 49% to 45% -- among all registered voters. When Biden is matched up against DeSantis, it's a virtual dead heat -- Biden receives 47% and DeSantis receives 46% among all registered voters.
The poll also asked voters whether they had a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the three men. Biden polled at 40% favorable, 54% unfavorable; Trump polled 36% favorable, 58% unfavorable; and DeSantis polled 36% favorable, 40% unfavorable.
Trump, the first Republican contender to announce a presidential campaign, has unleashed an increasing amount of attacks on DeSantis in recent weeks. DeSantis has yet to announce a run for the White House but is rumored to be launching a campaign once Florida's legislative session has concluded.
Meantime, Biden has repeatedly indicated intentions to run for reelection but has made no official announcement. An ABC News/Washington Post poll from earlier this year shows only 31% of Democrats want the party to renominate Biden, while 58% would prefer someone else.
