The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has arrested the son of a 69-year-old woman they believe was murdered. Her body was discovered in her Mission Viejo home late on Tuesday evening.
According to the O.C. Sheriff’s Department, Marie Mosby was reported missing by another son. When deputies responded to her home near Crown Valley Parkway in Mission Viejo, they discovered she was already dead.
Charles “Charlie” Mosby, 36, was taken into custody and booked into Orange County jail on Wednesday on suspicion of involvement with the death. Charlie reportedly lived at the home with his mother.
But neighbors never suspected any animosity between the two.
“This is such a shock,” Lori Marcial, a neighbor, told CBS Los Angeles. “I just can’t imagine anything like this happening. I just can’t imagine him doing anything to his mother because he just adores his mother.”
Another neighbor told CBS she had not seen Marie Mosby doing her “usual backyard chores” for a few weeks prior to the discovery.
O.C. authorities have not yet disclosed a theory for motive in the alleged murder. “No additional suspects or vehicles are being sought at this time,” the department said in a Facebook post published Wednesday.
