In her second year at Texas A&M, Banks decided to pivot to a career in music. Shortly after the decision she recorder her hit, “Buss It.” Now two years in, Banks says she is growing and finding her own sonic authenticity.

With people across the globe taking part in the viral TikTok “Buss It” challenge, Erica says “I realized that it was going viral when I saw it on TikTok, the day that it actually started trending. And I was just like ‘damn this is cool, this is my song, celebrities are doing it,’ but actually caught on to it the same day the trend started.”

On the track, Banks samples Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” which not only has had the Country Grammar artist supporting the song at full force but also Nelly’s girlfriend even took part in the viral TikTok challenge featuring the song. “They were both very supportive” explained Banks.

The up-and-coming rapper has been grinding ever since her song blew up, laughing when she says that she has only been sleeping “a tad bit.” Banks has been recording tracks “one day at a time and putting them out just for content, just to stay active.”

Out of all the people who took part in the “Buss It” challenge, the rapper says that her favorite participant was Ruby Rose, and “the craziest DM I’ve gotten, it would probably have to be from Shaq.”

Since its debut “Buss It” has made it onto the radio and reached 38 on the R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart. Now her song “Toot That” is also on its way to climbing the charts.
