I don’t think anyone is surprised to hear the announcement that this year’s California State Fair is being postponed – or at least they shouldn’t be. We are barely opening back up to crowds, so a full-fledged State Fair right away would be a BIG step.
But it isn’t just that. There is actually another reason: Cal Expo remains a COVID-19 vaccination center.
Since the vaccination programs will be extended through September, the fair organizers announced today that the event will thereby be postponed as well.
As CBS Sacramento reports, organizers are hopeful that some type of fair could possibly take place later in the year; mentioning a “slimmed-down version of the fair,” according to officials.
“There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel, and I am proud that Cal Expo has been able to play such an important role during this difficult time,” said Rick Pickering, CEO of Cal Expo, in a statement.
