Millions of boxes Girl Scouts cookies left unsold

John Moore / Staff

You guys want some cookies?

Every year it seems one way or another we end up with a box (or six) of those classic cookies – The Girl Scout Cookies. There are even Girl Scout Cookie flavored milkshakes and other products at fast food joints and in stores. They are so popular that I don’t think I need to go any further... other than to say that they didn’t really sell any last year and are stuck with 15 million unsold boxes.

The obvious difference in 2020 was the pandemic; and because of that they couldn’t utilize their biggest selling point: their Girl Scouts.

1)   Membership was down in Girl Scouts and

2)   The Scouts couldn’t sell in-person (which we all know is their BIG pitch). *It’s hard to say NO face-to-face to such cuteness.*

Keep in mind, they do charge $5 a box too - so with the way a lot of peoples' funds have been looking during COVID-19, I am not sure how many people have expendable money like that.

What are they going to do with those “extra” boxes? I have no idea. It’d be nice if they have some kind of cookie clearance, I’d stock up for sure.
