What you know about rollin' down in the deep?
6 months ago you would have heard that and looked at me confused. Hell, 3 months ago you probably would have shrugged your shoulders too, but here we are now...and if those lyrics hit and that beats knocks and you don't bounce in some type of way, that's when people will look at you like something is wrong with you. Funny how much changes over time.
3 months. 6 months. How about 18 months though? THAT is when Astronaut in the Ocean was actually released, summer of 2019. It is now 2021 and the artist, Masked Wolf, is taking off < insert astronaut or space reference here >.
With all his recent success and the time difference (since he is in Australia), Masked Wolf was able to take the time and have a Squintz Session with your boy and dive into some things. We get to talk about the name, the single and its success (Astronaut in the Ocean), his music and influences, what's next, and more.
I included his YouTube to Astronaut in the Ocean below, which you will for sure recognize, but also so you can click on his other songs in his past catalog. He definitely is one to watch, and I am not just saying that. I didn't tell him in the interview because I didn't want to seem like I was just gassing him up (because people do that far too often), but I do see a similarity to an artist like Post Malone, to where he is in his own lane. Post hit the scene and has the obvious hip hop influence, but also isn't just that - he even has a song with Ozzy Osbourne. People tend to label artist to where you are either this or that, but sometimes you can be in between. I feel that with Masked Wolf, and he said it himself with how much he loves The Beatles, showing his knowledge and appreciation for music other than Rap (music with instruments). So Hip hop with a hint of rock; evident in musicology of sound and tracks - not too many people can say they have that - and I see that translating to good music given the chance. So I am looking forward to seeing, literally seeing, what is next. I want to be there when that concert hits, believe that.
It is good to put a face behind the mask. #wolfpack.
