The Padres defeated the Cardinals 4-2 on Friday night to remain 4 games out of the final wild card spot with 8 games to go. It was the Padres' 8th straight win. Manny Machado led the way on offense, going 4-4 with 2 home runs, including a go-ahead solo homer in the 6th inning, followed by a go-ahead 2-run bomb in the 8th inning after the Padres blew the 2-1 lead in the top half of the inning. Matt Waldron also impressed, striking out 9 and allowing just 1 run in 5.2 innings pitched. Nick Martinez will start on Saturday as the Padres fight to keep their playoff hopes alive.
