Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Organizers of the Electric Daisy Carnival have decided to postpone the electronic music festival until October.

The new dates will be October 22nd through the 24th.

Originally, the festival was to have run May 21st through the 23rd at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As recently as a couple of weeks ago, EDC officials said it was full speed ahead, encouraging festival-goers to buy their plane tickets and book their hotel rooms.

The main reason organizers gave for the postponement was Clark County's measure to not approve any large gatherings unless at least 60 percent of Clark County residents had been vaccinated against the coronavirus. EDC officials said that was something out of their control.

“Unfortunately, the rate at which people get vaccinated before EDC is out of our control,” EDC founder Pasquale Rotella wrote on his Instagram page. “It might happen in time, it might not. Either way, we can’t take that risk.”

Those who hold tickets for the original May dates will have those tickets honored for October. An estimated 200,000 people were expected for May's 3-day event.
