Lower Merion School District accuses parents of ‘fearmongering’ in tech lawsuit

“Parents simply do not have a constitutional right to control each and every aspect of their children’s education” — that’s part of the Lower Merion School District’s response to a lawsuit from parents who want to opt their kids out of the use of technology.

The district accuses the parents of “fearmongering” and trying to get school officials to “kowtow to their peculiar views on technology in the classroom.”

The district is asking a judge to deny the parents’ request for an injunction.

Parents have raised questions about the quality of the learning software the district is using. They say they are concerned about kids playing games or accessing the internet from school-issued laptops.

Last month, the district issued a revised policy that no longer issues devices to kids in kindergarten through second grade and adds guidelines for screen time for higher grades.
