The Padres eliminated the Giants from playoff contention with a 4-0 win at Oracle Park on Tuesday night. It was basically a two-man show for the Padres, as Seth Lugo delivered the best start of his professional career. Lugo threw 8.2 shutout innings and struck out 7, falling one out shy of a complete game shutout. After allowing a walk and a single in the 9th inning, and with his pitch count at 123, Josh Hader was called upon to close the door, which he did striking out Wilmer Flores. Juan Soto provided all the offense the Padres would need, going 3-4 with a walk, 2 home runs and 3 RBIs at the plate, and notching a new career high in home runs with 35. Combined with the Cubs' shocking loss to the Braves, the Padres will live to see another day, and will send Matt Waldron to the mound.
