In an effort to make the area around San Francisco's UN Plaza by Civic Center a safer space, The San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department has filed plans to create a new skate park, as well as add chess & ping pong tables and sports equipment to the plaza.

SF Rec & Park GM Phil Ginsburg said in a statement that, "The most effective way to make a public space safer, healthier, and more joyous is to make it fun," and that's what this project aims to accomplish in the notably drug-plagued area of downtown.

This is the latest in proposals that could help bring life back to particular areas of the City post-pandemic, as Another Planet Entertainment is also working with city officials to bring free concerts to Civic Center Plaza and other public spaces by 2024.

Work on the project could begin as soon as September and be completed within 6 weeks.
