You can hear the full interview below, but just below is the overview if you're short on time (and we always are, right?).
Back to school: How can we be safer?Encourage our children to wear masks correctly & don't send our kids if we have any signs of illness.
After school activities and sports: Are they safe? The more socially distant the activity, the better, but remember you're now playing with a new batch of kids. It's preferable to do it with the kids they already spend the day with. Outdoor activities are best, but also remember that the before and after (changing rooms, etc) are problematic. And parents need to be mindful of their space from each other in the stands.
How should we adjust after school routines?Wait on snacks until kids get home and fully wash their hands with soap and water. Have a "drop zone" for shoes, backpacks, etc. If you have higher risks, after-school baths could be a good idea if you're home of the night.
How are kids adjusting mentally and emotionally about back to school? We can explain to them that the schools and community leaders have worked hard to make school safe and it's an important part of our plan. Express confidence in our choice of in-person learning in front of our kids.
Is it safe to trick-or-treat this year?Probably. The exposure is brief which should minimize risk. Include masks and don't eat treats until hands have been fully washed. If cases spike, we should reconsider.
