I got to fill-in for Linda on a Foodie Friday and talked to a longtime friend of mine who has worked in the restaurant business for years. She's currently working with celebrity chef Aarón Sánchez as director of his philanthropies. Chef Sánchez is offering up an amazing culinary scholarship to Latino youth that would be a total life-changer for someone. Check out more on that at aaronsanchezscholarshipfund.com.
We also talked about a couple of new restaurants she loves; Queen Trini Lisa in Mid-City and Alma Cafe in the Bywater. And she attempted a recipe from another Nola celeb chef...a guy by the name of Emeril and made his red beans. Worth it? Hear what she says about Emeril's Red Beans Recipe in our chat below.
If for some reason you actually want to try Tpot from B97's red beans "recipe" that I mentioned, then here's that one as well... (my 10yr old daughter is obsessed)
TPOT'S RED BEANS "RECIPE"
4-5 strips of bacon
Trinity seasoning
Large can of Blue Runner
Can of black beans
Can of Rotel
Turkey kielbasa sausage
Cook the bacon and seasoning. Cut bacon into small pieces. Mix in canned ingredients and sausage. Simmer until your kids are ready to eat. Then apologize to your maw-maw or anyone with a real recipe for red beans that your child won't let you make for them ever again because, if you have my luck, you kid only will eat this version now. LOL!
