The legendary actress joined the "Today" show for a chat about the second season of her Apple+ series, “Tehran.” But the conversation quickly turned to her role as spurned lover, Alex Forrest, in the 1987 neo-noir hit, “Fatal Attraction."

In the movie, she portrayed the blonde femme fatale who won’t leave Michael Douglas’ married character - or his family - alone after a one-night stand. While the film plays with noir's amoral theme that everyone is a little guilty, Close’s character is soon cast as an iconic bad guy.

But not in Close’s mind.

“I loved that character,” said Close. “It’s ironic to me that she’s considered a villain. I’ve never considered her a villain. I thought she was a woman who was out of control and in great need of help.”

“I could talk about it forever,” she added, “it was that important to me.”

It seems it was important to Close for a number of reasons, one of which was that it afforded her a chance to play something she hadn't yet been able to explore yet in her previous roles.

"That was one of the seminal films of my career," she said. "I remember, before ‘Fatal Attraction,’ people said, ‘Oh, can she be sexy?’ Well, I hadn’t been asked to be sexy.”

Her young co-star on “Tehran,” Niv Sultan, admitted it was “hard to grasp” that she was working with Glenn Close.

“I imagined that she would just make an appearance, do her close-ups, and poof – disappear,” said Sultan. “But there’s a reason you get so successful in your career. Putting aside the fact that obviously she’s so talented, she works so hard. And she never disappears.”

As revealed during the chat, it’s the 35th anniversary of “Fatal Attraction,” and there is a television remake in the works.
