"And just like that..that’s a wrap," Halle Bailey wrote to accompany a perfect picture of her in the ocean at sunset. From the moment it was announced that Bailey (half of the famed duo, Chloe X Halle) would be portraying Princess Ariel in the live-action/CGI take of The Little Mermaid, it was very apparent that she was perfect for this leading role.

We are especially ready for Ariel to have red dreadlocks and Halle's ethereal voice is perfect for Ariel's angelic tunes. After months of filming and a slight delay— due to the pandemic— filming has wrapped and Halle recapped her time as Ariel in a heartfelt post.

She wrote, "after auditioning for this film when I was 18 just about to turn 19 , to now finishing filming through a pandemic when I turned 21.. we have finally made it... I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory.."

She continued, "it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone I’ve ever known, to feeling self doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I’ve reached the end. This experience has made me so much stronger than i ever thought I could be."

The songbird thanked her castmates and the crew. She considered her Prince Eric, played by Jonah Hauer-King, a "friend for infinite lifetimes" and considered the OG actors like Melissa McCarthy (Ursula) and Daveed Diggs (Sebastian) "masters of their craft" while also being "welcoming and open." Directed to the fans, Halle expressed, "I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears)."

The Little Mermaid Live also stars Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle. The film will also feature new (and original) songs from composer Alan Menken, and lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
