As Jessica expressed, the inspiration to create the show came from Alba and Mathis’ “everyday lives.” Both mother’s of three, “we’ve gone through so many growing pain in our homes, through every stage of our kid’s growth, and our family’s growth.” So their idea was to “take some of these tips and tricks,” that they’ve been able to accumulate, and use them “to maybe help some people along the way.”
As a “design enthusiast,” Alba noted, “I have renovated many many spaces and homes and its just something I love to do… So between me and Lizzy, we really came together, and I think we have a show that really touches the heart and the humanity.”
Comparing her new endeavor to “a lot of renovations shows” out there, Alba expressed, “they give you a kind of great before and after, but they don’t necessarily go in, and get in with the families. And Lizzy was very passionate about getting in with the families and the soul of why were doing what we’re doing. So there’s real purpose behind it.”
“I think we just wanted to do something different,’ Mathis chimed in. “We’d seen all the renovation shows, which are great and you get that pay-off at the end. But, there was so much you were missing in between, and we wanted to bring in what we knew and what we loved, and like the power of families that we knew existed.”
In addition, the duo wanted to shine on a light on “the transition that every family goes through” when the child count goes up. “There’s a huge transition when you bring another human being into your house. And have to raise that human being, and the human being gets bigger, and bigger, and more things, and we knew all that."
Lizzy continued, “so we really wanted to have a show that we could relate to and that other people could relate to. Have those takeaways, but still have it be fun, and like energetic, and comedic, and heartwarming… We want you to cry, laugh, take away, go renovate your home, all the above after seeing the show.”
As for those others who can relate, Jessica made it a point to note that all “these tips and tricks can be applied whether you have families or not.”
To hear the rest of the conversation, including Jessica and Lizzy discussing the unnecessary need to accumulate a massive amount of stuff that mother’s of newborns often do, their mission to “make sure every person in the home felt seen and heard while making appropriate spaces for the baby,” plus a whole lot more — check out the entire interview above.
