Mayim Bialik is talking about her show “Call Me Kat” learning of the death of costar Leslie Jordan.

The actress and “Jeopardy!” host discussed on the “Jennifer Hudson Show” how the cast and crew of the sitcom were “waiting” for Jordan to make it to set and start filming. He died that day from a cardiac episode, which caused him to crash his car into a building in Los Angeles. The loss happened on Oct. 24, 2022.

“It was a sudden thing. We were all at work and waiting for him to show up at work, so it was very, very, very complicated to have the whole crew there and the whole cast,” Bialik said. “You know, we were a family.”

Bialik credited how close the cast became to it being one of the first shows back after COVID-19 lockdowns.

“We kind of became this little COVID unit,” she said. “We were often the only people that we were interacting with outside of whoever was in our homes so we were all very close.”

Speaking of the late Jordan, Bialik said viewers knew him as Leslie Jordan; “not necessarily just as the character that he played on our show.”

“He’s been in people’s lives, and especially during COVID, he was in people’s Instagram feeds and a lot of people really formed a real connection with him and he loved that. He loved being approachable. He loved being loved.”

Bialik went on saying how this season of “Call Me Kat” feels like the one “that we lost Leslie.”

“It’s been hard, and we’re grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work with him the way we did and in the time of his life that we got to work with him,” she said.

“Call Me Kat” airs Thursdays on FOX.
