More electricity restored, but some promised power are still in the dark

Power

Saturday saw thousands of customers get their power back.

CLECO's site shows nearly 78% have their power back.

There were 21,378 customers off of the 96,974 in St. Tammany Parish.

Entergy posted, "Six days after Hurricane Ida made landfall, Entergy has restored nearly 341,000, or 36% of the 948,000 customers who lost power due to the storm."

WWL TV said, however, that some areas Entergy said would have electricity didn't get it.

"Just before nightfall Saturday, Entergy New Orleans had not been able to restore power to several neighborhoods the company promised would be back online by the end of the day," the TV station reported.

Entergy's update noted that the predicted restoration times are not always completely accurate.

"Estimates are subject to change as we complete our damage assessments and continue with restoration work in the affected areas."

The company's president and CEO said the damage is vastly extensive with more than 22,000 power poles impacted.

“Incredibly, the number of poles damaged or destroyed is already more than we saw in Louisiana from Katrina, Zeta and Delta combined by a large margin,” May said Saturday.

Meanwhile, there has been some criticism of the living conditions for some of the workers who are restoring power.

Entergy posted, "We regret the logistical issues some of the field crews have experienced and are working quickly to resolve them. We have a large and capable logistics team that is focused 24/7 on finding beds, food, laundry facilities and gas for nearly 27,000 workers – we are essentially moving a large army and it takes an enormous amount of effort and coordination."

A news release says officials are working to ensure everyone on site to assist with restoration has what they need.

"We are not perfect," Entergy explained. "That is our responsibility, and we take it very seriously."
