"Do you know if they booked a musical guest for tonight?" Mumford and Sons singer Marcus Mumford crashed his wife Carey Mulligan's opening monologue on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, and the Internet had an interesting way of dealing with finding out the two were married.

Mulligan, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Promising Young Woman at this year's Oscars on April 25, performed host duties while rapper Kid Cudi was the actual musical guest. Following Carey's opening monologue where she shot down her husband Marcus' offer to perform "if they end up needing anyone," Twitter users had a few questions about what they were seeing.

“I thought you were giving me the signal... Our secret couple signal for ‘play the guitar,'” Mumford told Mulligan after she told the audience he was at home with their two children. He then began to play his guitar from his seat. “You’re being that guy that takes his acoustic guitar out at the party,” Carey joked as Marcus quipped, “People love that guy!”

He's right, people do love that guy. They just apparently had no idea he was married to an actress for the last nine years. Or that he's British, for that matter.

Of course, because it's the Internet, some just had to get their digs in, while others remembered those days of old when we would have those chance encounters with unmasked celebrities on the street. Ah, memories...

Mumford & Sons' latest release was 2020's live EP, Delta Tour, a six-track collection of live recordings from the band's tour behind their 2018 album Delta, including covers of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" and The Beatles' "With a Little Help From My Friends."

"It's dedicated to our fans and our crew," Mumford said of the EP. "We love you and we miss you."
