The Bruins have a new team captain.
As they enter their 2023 training camp without Patrice Bergeron at the helm, the team announced on social media on Wednesday morning that Brad Marchand has been named their next captain.
The 71st overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft, Marchand made his NHL debut in 2009 and became a regular for the Bruins during the 2010-11 season, the same year Boston hoisted the Stanley Cup for the first time in 39 years.
The edgy winger has compiled 372 goals, 490 assists, and has been named an NHL All-Star five times throughout his impressive career.
He’ll now lead a Bruins team that's coming off the greatest regular season in NHL history, as well as arguably the greatest postseason collapse. Boston begins their training camp on Wednesday and opens their season on October 11 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
