The GRAMMY Award-winning singer and rapper was the inspiration for a sixth-grade class at Osseo Middle School to submit "Blizzo" to the Minnesota Department of Transportation's contest to name the snowplow... and it was one of the winners.
Lizzo posted a video on Twitter calling it the highest honor she's ever received, and thanked the kids who came up with the name. "To know there is a snowplow named 'Blizzo' that's clearing the streets of the Twin Cities right now makes my heart melt, or freeze," she said in her post.
"I want to shout out Osseo Middle school," she said in the video. "Thank you so much for nominating moi as the recipient of this esteemed honor! I love you Twin Cities!" Lizzo punctuated her reaction by blowing a kiss, adding, "Stay freezing!"
The singer moved to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul (Twin Cities) area in 2011, where she helped form the three-piece all-female Rap/R&B group named The Chalice.
"Blizzo" was second among all submitted names, with a metro-area snowplow getting the moniker. The top vote-getter was the Harry Potter-inspired "Harry, You're a Blizzard" in southwestern Minnesota.
