Road conditions slowly improving but still dangerous Monday morning; schools closed across Austin metro

Road conditions are gradually improving but officials are still urging everyone to stay home unless absolutely necessary Monday morning, as the effects of a bitter Arctic blast linger into the new work week.

...An Extreme Cold WARNING continues until 9AM Tuesday...

Temperatures are expected to rise above the freezing mark Monday afternoon, at least by a couple of degrees. Austin's forecast high is 35.

Virtually all Austin-area school districts are closed Monday; any decisions about Tuesday operations will likely be made late in the evening.

Another hard freeze is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning; one more freeze is forecast Tuesday night into Wednesday before overnight temperatures finally rise above freezing - ahead of another winter blast coming this weekend.
