AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Music fans will have one less option to ring in 2022 this weekend, with the band Spoon announcing Wednesday that its New Year's Eve bash at ACL Live has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

"We’re beyond bummed to report that due to COVID cases amongst artists on the bill as well as the extremely sharp rise in COVID cases in the Austin community, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the New Year’s Eve show at ACL Live," a message from the band reads.

In addition to Spoon, the John Doe Folk Trio and Sweet Spirit rounded out the bill for Friday night's show, which was set to get underway at 8:30 p.m.

Austin Public Health leaders made the decision Wednesday morning to move the area back to Stage 4 in the area's COVID-19 risk-based guidelines, citing a substantial increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations alongside concerns about the rapid spread of the omicron variant of the virus.

ACL Live officials say that ticketholders will receive an email with refund options.
