AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Public Health says it will expand COVID-19 vaccine appointment availability to the general public beginning next week.

The agency announced Friday morning that its next wave of first dose appointments, which will release on Monday, April 12, will be open to anyone 18 or older.

APH has been receiving roughly 12,000 first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine each week since the state moved to a hub system in early January.

Because APH only receives the Moderna vaccine, which has only been approved for use for those 18 and older, those under the age of 18 will need to seek out a different provider that uses the Pfizer vaccine.

In order to schedule an appointment, you'll need to be pre-registered in APH's database - that can be done anytime by visiting the APH website. Vaccine appointments are typically released on Monday evenings at 6 p.m., although that schedule is subject to change depending on weekly conditions.
