AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Parts of the Austin area could see the chance for strong to possibly severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, though far from a certainty.

Virtually all of Williamson County, along with the northern edges of Travis County and much of Burnet County and points north are under an Enhanced risk of severe storms - the third of five levels the Storm Prediction Center uses for severe weather outlooks.

Nearly all of the rest of the Austin metro area is under a Slight risk, the second of five levels.

If storms are able to break through and develop, the likely timing along the Interstate 35 corridor is between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - right in the middle of the afternoon rush hour. The threat will quickly diminish after sunset.

Forecasters say the biggest threat, if storms are able to develop, will be large hail and damaging winds. Flooding is not expected to be a concern; while an isolated tornado or two may be possible, conditions are not expected to be favorable for significant development.

A cold front will push through Wednesday morning. While an isolated storm or two is possible, any severe threat will have subsided.
