AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Just hours away from what is shaping up to be a significant ice storm across Central Texas, the National Weather Service has shifted its Winter Storm Warning for all of the Austin metro area to begin earlier and include all of our Austin metro counties.

A Winter Storm WARNING is now set to go into effect for the Hill Country, the I-35 corridor, and our eastern counties, beginning at midnight tonight and lasting until at least 9 p.m. Thursday evening.

Scattered showers will continue throughout the day on Wednesday, continuing to increase in coverage after the arctic front arrives in the early afternoon. That cold rain will transition to a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet after midnight, and that wintry mix will continue to fall until late Thursday afternoon before finally clearing west to east.

Temperatures are expected to fall through the day on Thursday, reaching the lower 20s in the afternoon before bottoming out in the upper teens across much of the area by Friday morning. Those temperatures may not rebound above the freezing mark until late Friday afternoon, or even Saturday afternoon - meaning we may face as much as 48 hours of continued sub-freezing temperatures.
