In a new interview with The Guardian, McVie was asked about the band’s “legendary alcohol and drug intake” and whether or not she has blank spaces in her memory from those days.
“No. I have to say I’m not guilt-free in that department but Stevie [Nicks] and I were very careful,” McVie said. She then touched on the band’s drug use during shows saying “The boys used to get provided with cocaine in Heineken bottle tops on stage, but Stevie and I only did the tiny little spoons.”
“My drug of choice was cocaine and champagne,” she continued. “I didn’t use any other drugs at all. It’s easy for me to say, but I think it made me perform better.” McVie then added with a laugh, "Maybe somebody could tell me different.”
McVie also discussed her favorite Fleetwood Mac period and it’s one that’ll likely align with many fans. “I would be silly not to say the Stevie and Lindsey [Buckingham] era, because that was pretty sensational,” she said.
“We had our fights here and there, but there was nothing like the music or the intensity onstage. We weren’t doing anything in Britain, so [we] just decamped to America and fell into this huge musical odyssey.”
