On Saturday we will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11. It was the worst day in our history, but from that day the best came out in people. So this week we are highlighting groups who are doing good deeds in their communities and asking you to step up and volunteer, donate and share the news.
This morning we spoke with Steve for The Alternative House. The mission of Alternative House is to facilitate the creation of a society in which violence and oppression will no longer exist. As a means to this end, they offer access to shelter, support, children's programming, legal, housing, and community advocacy for all victims of domestic violence (and their children) who seek help.
We also spoke with Winnie for the Newton Community Development Foundation. This organization Celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018 and has been a leader in providing affordable and low-income housing in Newton.
