On Saturday we will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11. It was the worst day in our history, but from that day the best came out in people. So this week we are highlighting groups who are doing good deeds in their communities and asking you to step up and volunteer, donate and share the news.
This morning we spoke to Sheri who volunteers for Hope Lives Here, a place where those who have lost someone can come together for grief support. Sheri lost her son at only 18 months. It is a safe space to share and be supported by those who understand what you are going through. They are holding their first 'Walk/Run to Remember 5K' this October 17th. Due to Covid, they had to get very creative with fundraising last year and are looking to play catch up. They are in need of corporate sponsors if you'd like to help!
We also spoke to Julia who created the Facebook group Kindness for Caitlin after she lost her sister at the age of 34. She created the group to encourage others to do a kindness for someone. It's just that simple. Caitlin was in and out of hospitals most of her life but when Caitlin learned someone was having a bad day or had experienced a loss, she reached out to them, despite how well she knew them; sending cards, flowers, kind words, or most often, a beautiful angel. So today we are asking you to do a kindness for someone in Catilin's name.
