This Newburyport teen is making sure everyone has a chance to participate in sports.
Luke O'Brien is a sophomore at Newburyport High School, and is a proud student-athlete.
Over the last year, Luke has worked on creating Gear to Share, which is an organization that collects gently used sporting equipment and donates it to kids that don't have the means or access to the equipment.
On the Gear to Share website, Luke opened up that he combined two things that he loves - sports and helping people.
His mission statement includes the fact that over 24,000 kids in Essex County are living in poverty.
"Sporting equipment costs some families, $500 per year, per athlete and usually, even more. My mission is to collect new or gently used sporting equipment, and donate it to kids who don't have accessibility or the means to the equipment."
