When Officer Lima answered a call that individuals were caught shoplifting, he could have reprimanded them, and went about his day. What he did instead will be something this family never forgets.
Officer Lima arrived at the supermarket and the store manager told him that the two women and two children did not scan everything at the self-checkout. Instead of charging these individuals, Officer Lima decided to find out their reason for stealing the items.
The Somerset Police department said, “Officer Lima discovered that the two suspects fell upon hard times and attempted to take additional groceries they did not have enough money to pay for so they could provide a Christmas dinner for the two young children.”
Officer Lima decided that instead of charging these individuals, the more important thing was to make sure they had the food they needed for a holiday meal. He purchased $250 worth of groceries for the family.
Chief of Police, George McNeil, said, “His actions exemplify what it means to protect and serve the members of our community. When faced with a difficult situation in which a family was trying to provide a meal for their kids, he made the generous decision to not press charges and instead ensured that they would have a Christmas dinner they could enjoy.”
That family will never forget Officer Lima’s kindness, and neither will we.
